  Title 24

Since 1978 all new homes, additions, alterations and most commercial buildings within California are required to meet minimum energy efficiency standards contained in Title 24, Part 6 of the California Code of Regulations. CCR, Title 24, also known as the California Building Standards Code, is a compilation of three types of building standards from three different origins:

o     Building standards that have been adopted by state agencies without change from building standards contained

in national model codes
o     Building standards that have been adopted and adapted from the national model code standards to meet

California conditions
o     Building standards, authorized by the California legislature, that constitute extensive additions not covered by
       the model codes that have
been adopted to address particular California concerns

The Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential and Nonresidential Buildings were established in 1978 in response to a legislative mandate to reduce California's energy consumption. The standards are updated periodically to allow consideration and possible incorporation of new energy efficiency technologies and methods.

2005 Standards - Went into effect October 1, 2005, and supersede the 2001 Standards. Projects that apply for a building permit on or after this date must comply with the 2005 Standards.
